Our Story:

Using the fourth EMR software package in the first 24 years of the business’ existence, the owners of Oxford Physical Therapy, Southwest Ohio - Northern Kentucky’s largest private physical therapy practice, were looking (and needing) a change in operational software. By 2016, and with their current software about to sunset in less than nine months, investigating business software options and then deciding the next step was forced upon them.

Here was the situation presented to Oxford Physical Therapy:

The parent company of the business software that Oxford Physical Therapy had utilized for 8 years, planned to sunset their EMR software. That parent company gave nine months of support after their sunset announcement. After that Oxford Physical Therapy (and any other client they had), would be on their own regarding support after that nine-month period. This was not a sustainable solution for growing businesses.

Oxford’s Options as presented:

1. Utilize the current software for as long as possible, even though it was unsupported.

2. Lease various healthcare EMR options.

3. Build an evolutionary, customizable, customer and practice-specific platform ourselves.

Option 1; Was not a long-term solution for many reasons. First it would not be supported by the company that owned it. Second, Oxford Physical Therapy and their IT solutions partners made various operational changes to fit the growing business. Unfortunately, this process had a ceiling and these limitations in function were straining. If there were adaptations needed to be written into the software due in part to potential regulatory or industry changes, this software was not capable due in part to the pending sunset status.

Option 2; Looked at various EMR software options on the market at that time. There were several functions that Oxford Physical Therapy identified as priority when investigating other healthcare EMR systems. User friendly functions (clinical & administrative), patient onboarding, scheduling, billing, marketing & business reporting, employee productivity functions as well as various communication processes were identified. Then, reviewing these functions with the specificity required from Oxford Physical Therapy.

Option 3; After the review of the above options, Oxford Physical Therapy, partnered with KJLP, LLC to create their own business tool that was specific to an ever-changing healthcare environment.

As of the fall of 2022, this journey has taken 6+ years of work. As the BETA1 for the project, Oxford Physical Therapy chose to go live in the middle of year 3, as the development had progressed far enough to be able to make the change to the new software platform. And this is when Mountain Cat Intelligence was born.

Along the way there have been many hurdles, which have added layers of code writing, testing, retesting, launching of new features, etc. The complex nature of this business software is far-reaching. In the end, the realization of continued updates and implementation makes Mountain Cat Intelligence an ever changing, evolving tool for the user at all levels of the business side of healthcare.
